Final Piece.
Planning.
As an idea for tying in all the aspects and techniques that I had looked at together, I decided to experiment with making one part of someone's body become a facial feature. For example; using someone's belly button as their eyes or mouth.
This idea could also work with using hands in certain shapes and poses to mimic the feature they are replacing; for example, squeezing the hands tightly in a fist and using the side of the hand as the eye or mouth as it is a circular shape. This would also reflect the Photoshopping skills which I have learned through my previous experiments; for example using the 'eraser' tool effectively. |
Photo-shoot 1.
This photo-shoot was my first attempt at experimenting with using hands in different positions to mimic features of the face.
To do this, I set up the green room with a white backdrop and used bright, revealing lighting; two large soft lights either side of the model and one hard light directly in front of the model's face to remove any harsh shadows that may have been created.
I started by capturing images of the model with minimal facial expression as to not distract from the main focus of the image which would be the replacement of the features. I then shaped the model's hands in different positions to try and create the main shapes which mimic the features; for example, making a fist and capturing the side of the hand for the circular shape to mimic the eyes.
I intent to edit these images on Photoshop, layering the two and erasing the edges of the image of the hand and placing it over the face to make it seem to take the place of the eye/s.

Photoshoot 2.
This photoshoot was an improvement on my previous experimentation shoot. I focused more on the chosen model, the lighting and the expression and costume. One of the areas which I had noticed needed improving from my last shoot was the lighting; although it was bright and revealing the way I had intended it to be, it seemed that it might be more effective if it was darker or if the shadows were prominent, that way I would have more room for Photoshop manipulation as the face is partially obscured.
Additionally, the expression should be more extreme as I wanted the photos to make an impact and give off the feel of seeming uncomfortable to view. Additionally, the costume needed to be more controlled, however still minimal, so either wearing a plain white or black top as to not distract from the face.
